About
Welcome to WalkerView. This site contains images made using digital cameras and popular software. On this page I will tell you something about myself and my motivation for taking photographs.
As many photographers profess, I too have been interested in photography from a very early age. However, I was encouraged to pursue an education that would pay the bills and to treat photography as a hobby. After 11 years in engineering school and a number of years working, I have re-focused on my interest in photography. During the education and working years that have passed, I used film and eventually digital ‘point and shoot’ cameras to capture images.

My goal is to take photographs of people that: when they see the photograph, it makes them feel good. It may be a portrait that captures someones essence or someone doing something extraordinary. A short story that contributed to defining my goal: In my earlier years, I used to bicycle… a lot. At the peak, daily trips in the summer were 60 km and daily trips in the winter were 32 km. Long range trips included a 305 km trip with two friends from West Toronto to Kingston in one day. Then there was a mammoth 3600 km trip with 2 friends from Vancouver B.C. to Thunder Bay, Ontario, in 28 days, camping along the way. We saw 5 bears on the road during the bicycle trip; made us feel like meals on wheels.
Anyway, back to the reason that I like to photograph people, I have 6 photographs from those trips and none from the daily trips; looking at those 6 photos makes me feel good; I would like to have more, but not possible. When you consider the time and effort people put into achieving goals, it is worth capturing their excellence and maybe they can look at the photos one day and feel good.

As inspiration, you can achieve top of your game at any age; while bicycling through the mountains in B.C. during the trip mentioned above, a gentleman on a bicycle caught up to us and rode with us for awhile, we chatted, before he rode off. He had to get to the top of Rogers Pass to find a place to stay, so he couldn’t wait around for us; turned out he was 70 years old. He had just bicycled from Thunder Bay to Vancouver through the United States and was now bicycling back to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. His story was in the paper when we arrived in Thunder Bay. I wish that I had a picture of him.
I now shoot with a Canon 5D MKII and a Canon 40D. My favorite lenses are the 35L 1.4, 85L 1.2, and the 70-200L IS 2.8. Most, if not all, of the images on this site have been cropped, color balanced, or otherwise manipulated in some way to produce the image that you see. Some of them are compiled from up to 12 images to produce either panoramas or high dynamic range composites.
