Camera Settings – Fast Auto Focus
Center point focus, that’s the one I use. When using the Canon 5DMKII or the Canon 40D in AIServo mode (focus tracking mode), I use the center point for action photography.
Whatever the center red square is pointed at, is in focus… if the focus tracking is working… snow storms and low light can throw off the tracking.
I usually frame up the shot a little wide and put the center red square on the subject and hold the shutter button half way down. I concentrate on the red square and make sure that is on the part of the subject that I want in focus. Sometimes, I keep my other eye open to watch for limits in the framing, such at the boards in a skating arena, so that I know if the athlete will change direction.
